| | Some years ago I switched my blog from Wordpress to Nikola. I wrote a blog post about the move, but within a year or so, Id pretty much stopped blogging completely. More recently I discovered Hugo, and used it for a couple of other sites I own. popeyspades is a simple blog to promote a game server I was running at the time. | | I've always developed my own blog system, that's a good way to learn a new langage. But having to maintain a working server or hosting is no fun, there are some solutions like Jekyll or Hugo they generate static web pages based on some Markdown files you wrote. As it's just basic html files, they can be served by Github gh-pages. | | I switched from blogger.com the Google Blog platform to the hosted wordpress.com of Automaticc, the Wordpress blog engine main authors. I thus gain: markdown formatting when writing blog entries, finally ! running on a opensource core, that I can move locally to my own server if I ever want to fiddle with MySQL and PHP....
